Identify certain types of leather before buying leather tools
Currently, there are many different types of leather on the market, each type of leather has different characteristics, properties and durability, so it also has different expensive and cheap prices. So to choose a good leather tool, it is also useful that you know briefly about leather types:
- Buffalo / Cow Hides: These are two large types of cattle, so they have relatively similar skin sizes. Therefore, once belonged, few people can distinguish if not people in the profession. Overall, the difference between these 2 skin types is hardness and pore size. Accordingly, when we hold a piece of cowhide, it will feel soft, small pores, evenly distributed on the skin and less coarse than buffalo skin. Because of this, cow leather is used to make a wider variety of products than buffalo leather and is also more expensive than buffalo leather.
-Goat skin: if compared to cow or buffalo skin, goat skin is a very soft, tight and durable leather. Real goat skin, if we look closely, will see that its surface has arc-shaped ridges. Besides, there are usually 2 to 4 quite large pores but surrounded by very small pores.
- Sheep skin: This type of leather is suitable for products with small sizes because sheep leather is usually less durable than cow / buffalo leather. This type of skin has many tiny, thin and soft pores that spread evenly throughout the surface of the skin.
